Abstract

The study was to examining a simulated model for radio wave propagation in forested environment. The simulation model to be created as a prototype of the forest, (a single dielectric block), with different dimensional combinations of forest properties, material dielectric properties and antennas, were then simulated to obtained propagation model of radio wave in forest. Because of lack of information on the electrical properties of the real forest before now, no attempt was made to conduct simulation studies on radio waves propagation using forest electrical properties. There are two important properties that represent the forest electrical characteristics. They are permittivity, Ԑr and conductivity, δ. These properties obtained from the simulated study were observed to affect the radio wave propagation in forest. The values used for Ԑr and δ in the simulated model were obtained from measured data in real forest using RESPER probe. The EM simulation application, CST (MWS) studio suite, was used for the simulation. After the simulation was completed, the contour plots for E-fields strength, power loss and path loss were obtained from CST, while, MATLAB and other statistical method was used to analyzed the field data. The studies were conducted using dielectric block model. The model was valid for frequency up to 100 MHz
